Copenhagen, Denmark – In a significant step towards advancing fire safety technology and standards, the Research Organization for Energy and Manufacture under the National Research and Innovation Agency (OREM-BRIN) of Indonesia and the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology (DBI) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) and held productive discussions in Copenhagen on November 26-27, 2024. The agreement aims to promote cooperation in research, innovation, and capacity building to enhance fire safety technologies and practices in both countries.

The LoI highlights mutual goals, including promoting interest in fire safety research, organizing capacity-building activities such as training and symposiums, exchanging scientific data, and preparing joint research proposals. Both parties committed to fostering innovation by working on standards and testing methodologies for fire-resistant materials and fire safety technology.

The workshop and discussions following the LoI signing, BRIN delegates presented their profiles, focusing on fire safety regulations, testing protocols, and conformity assessments in Indonesia. DBI contributed by sharing insights on Danish construction codes, CE marking, and harmonized testing standards.
These discussions paved the way for co-development initiatives, including the establishment of a BRIN fire safety laboratory with DBI’s support and collaboration on joint ownership of intellectual property from future research projects.
The shared commitment to enhancing fire safety practices underscores the global importance of addressing fire-related challenges through innovation and collaboration. As the partnership evolves, it is expected to not only benefit Indonesia and Denmark but also set a precedent for international cooperation in fire safety innovation.
