
Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, Malaysia – The Indonesian Fire & Rescue Foundation (IFRF) together with Fire and Rescue Academy of Malaysia (FRAM) successfully hosted a comprehensive Fire Safety Management Training program from November 11 to November 14, 2024. The program aimed to enhance fire safety expertise for the lecturers of the Fire Safety Engineering Department of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Indonesia.
The training commenced with an introduction to essential topics, including the Course Brating session led by PPjB Noor Hisham bin Kamal from the FRAM Central Region. This was followed by an insightful presentation by TPr. Zamirzan bin Puji from Plan Malaysia, who introduced participants to the One-Stop Center (OSC) 3.0 Plus Online system. Discussions on the first day also explored the critical role of JBPM in the building lifecycle in Malaysia, led by PPjB Abdul Khair bin Osman, and the application of Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) 1984, presented by PKPjB Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr. Haji Wan Mohammad Zaidi. The day concluded with a session on fire management and safety practices in Malaysia, delivered by PPjB Ts. Dr. Ahmad Faiz bin Tharima.

On the second day, the program shifted its focus to technical aspects of fire safety. PPjB Ts. Dr. Mohd Zaid bin Ab. Ghani led discussions on reviewing architectural and mechanical plans, emphasizing their significance in obtaining certificates of compliance and completion for buildings. Additionally, sessions on performance-based approaches to fire safety design in Malaysia provided participants with insights into innovative strategies for ensuring safety. Practical considerations, such as fire hazard abatement and procedures for acquiring fire certificates, were also covered.
The third day featured a field visit to the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, offering participants a hands-on understanding of fire safety management in high-risk environments. This visit provided a unique perspective on implementing fire safety protocols in large-scale operations and hospitality settings.


The program concluded with an in-depth discussion on fire safety requirements for high-rise buildings, facilitated by PgKB I Farid Asyadhi bin Assa’ad from JBPM Selangor. This session highlighted the importance of regulatory compliance and practical measures in safeguarding occupants of tall structures, one of a pressing concerns in modern urban development.
At the end, the Fire Safety Management Training Program not only provided invaluable insights into contemporary fire safety practices but also served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange between Malaysia and Indonesia. The active participation of fire safety department lecturers from Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) ensures that the lessons learned will have a far-reaching impact to academic curricula and fostering a new generation of fire safety professionals.
