International Fire Conference and Exhibition Malaysia (IFCEM) 2024: A Hub of Innovation and Collaboration

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The International Fire Conference and Exhibition Malaysia (IFCEM) 2024, along with the International Fire Chief’s Association of Asia (IFCAA) and General Conference & Malaysia International Rescue Extrication Challenge (MIREC), held from October 22 to 24 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia. Five delegations from Indonesian Fire and Rescue Foundation (IFRF) were Peter Placidus Petrus (The chairman), Neil Edwin Jan Pattikawa, Hendy Kurniawan, Wahyu Wiebisono, and Biatna Dulbert Tanpubolon. This event proved to be a landmark event in the realm of fire safety and disaster resilience in Malaysia. The conference, themed “Enhancing Capacity,” brought together a diverse group of experts, practitioners, and stakeholders from around the globe to exchange insights, research findings, and best practices.

The conference spanned three days, featuring multifaceted sessions on Sustainable Fire Safety, Resilience, and Cross-Sector Collaboration. It was an unparalleled opportunity for networking among participants and industry professionals.

Day 1 – Sustainable Fire Safety

The opening day set the stage with a registration and welcome session, followed by an official ceremony. Keynote addresses by the Director General of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and other notable researchers highlighted critical topics such as fire risk management and safety in architectural projects like Merdeka 118.

Day 2 – Resilience and Disaster Preparednes

The second day focused on disaster risk reduction, with presentations addressing challenges and strategies specific to the Malaysian context. Discussions included fire protection solutions for modern energy systems, with insights from regions like Jakarta, Indonesia.

Day 3 – Cross-Sector Collaboration

The final session emphasized cooperative approaches to fire safety management. Presentations explored community resilience against manmade disasters and shared experiences from international collaborations.

The conference concluded with a gala dinner on October 23, fostering further networking opportunities. A technical visit on October 24 to significant local fire safety installations, including the Merdeka 118 Tower, provided practical insights into advanced fire safety measures. IFCEM 2024 was not just a platform for knowledge exchange but a crucial gathering aimed at enhancing fire safety management and disaster preparedness capacities.
